"Mysterious" 2.42 firmware update makes trophies load faster?

Sony has just released a firmware upgrade for the PS3. Version 2.42 is ready for download.
According to Sony, "this update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software."
However, some resources like PSU report that the trophies are optimized and are loading much faster.
