I was thinking of upgrading my PS3 hard drive to a 250 or 320gb, just wondering if anybody here has done that or encountered any trouble doing so.

Wow... you must be doing a lot of stuff on your PS3. I have never considered this before. What do you have on it anyways that it's so full? :)

Nothing more then yourself or any other gamer for that matter, just demos and a few psn/ps1 titles....i ripped a cd to the hard drive as well but thats about it.
It's just a guy thing, more or less, but considering that the psn store is pushing game downloads instead of retail purchasing then it may be a route that many people will consider.
It also seems that many of new (larger) games have huge installs (Metal gear 4) and eventually us Canadians will recieve movie downloads.
The only reason i would consider upgrading to a 250 or 320gb is that the price is only around $120.

Yeah..i watched a couple of videos on it, seems very straight forward, you don't even have to install anything.
The only thing you have to do, and it's optional, is to backup your saves to a thumb drive or external hdd.

Not sure..but i did discover that you can share your psn titles with friends, as long as your profile is on thier console...i downloaded Pain and Wipeout (ps1) and it works fine.
Not all games support this though.

ive thought about doing this, but ive got the 80 gig PS3 anyway, so it will be a while. I might get like a 120 or somthing, cause I dont think ill need that much. But, I might, I do play alot of games.

Upgrade is complete.

Well it wasn't hard at all to do it but it did take some effort.
the only thing i really had a problem with was the screws that held the hdd into the drive cage. all were hard and one was extra hard it would not come out. i tried everything and ended up having to pry the metal around the drive to get it out. the screw stripped very easy so be careful when and if you do it. like squirt some WD-40 on it before you do anything. Squirt it around the screws and leave it for a few min then try it.
Other then that i backed up the old one which took awhile. 40gigs to a 500gig external. then i had to download a file from the PlayStation site and it needed some files so it could recognize the external so i could later restore the old files.
All and all it took and hour and some change and now i have like 280 gigs of free space to play with.(downloading some demos and Qore right now)
Let me know if anyone has questions.

Thanks for the info......I think alot of people will be purchasing new hard drives for the ps3 for many reasons, Little Big Planet surely is going to be one of them.

Does anyone know if the european 60gb model (the discontinued one) can have its hard drive upgraded? And do you really need huge amounts of space for LittleBigPlanet levels? Concerned mainly about that, since im also planning on creating tons of them!!

Guys, if it's videos and music using up your PS3 memory just buy an external hard drive. U can get a 1Tb external 4 between $110-$150. And as long as the PS3 game data isn't copyrighted U can store that on there 2. Just make the hard drive is already in fat 32 format or your PS3 will have 2 format it. Which means backing up your data (or wiping your memory) If U get an internal U have 2 jump thru alot more hoops.:)
